Kohima, November 19 (MTNews): The Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Abu Metha, formally inaugurated The Bookhome, a children’s library near ETE Coffee on Billy Graham Road in Kohima on November 19, 2022.

Metha congratulated and lauded the proprietor for making her long-held dream a reality by establishing a library, which he said would be very helpful not only to children but also to those who have inculcated the habit of reading.

“Reading makes us grow, learn, broaden our view and induce us to do well in life,” he said.

Describing himself as an avid reader, Metha recalled how he spent his time and energy on reading books during his school days. He shared how reading has been part and parcel of his life and how reading is helping him to keep himself abreast with the latest happenings around the world.

He also mentioned that while devices and films can help, nothing can replace reading. As a result, he emphasized the importance of reading and urged children to strongly inculcate the habit of reading.

Children’s Author, Theyie Keditsu who shared a few words on the occasion congratulated and lauded the efforts of the proprietor for coming up with a library which she herself has been longing for long if not engaged in other professions.

Keditsu earnestly emphasized the importance of reading to our children even though they could not read by themselves.
“Nagas do not read because we are oral in culture and our society has a highly developed sense of orality”, she added.

Penthrill Publication House, Rita Krocha recalled how she grew up with her siblings with very few homes in that locality during the 1990s. She said she had inculcated the habit of reading and started reading in earnest while in college. She said the world is nothing but a place filled with infinite possibilities.

Yirmiyan Arthur, owner of THE BOOKHOME, presided over the event, and Pastor City Church, Kedo Peseyie, offered a thanksgiving prayer.
