Kohima, 18 September: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) organised a seminar-cum-workshop for its Press Bureau, Central Frontal Wings and Cells at the party’s Central Headquarters on Thursday, focusing on political communication, public outreach, legal awareness, grassroots engagement and organisational preparedness.
Addressing the gathering, NPF Secretary General and Advisor Achumbemo Kikon stressed the need for party workers to understand government policies, programmes and development initiatives so they can communicate them effectively. He said allegations from the opposition should receive timely and factual responses, while matters requiring verification should be addressed only after due examination.
Kikon also called for a professional social media approach, particularly to engage younger voters, and urged organisational units from the Central Office to divisions, areas, town wards, frontal organisations and cells to actively communicate government initiatives.
On the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) amendment, he said workers should explain that the matter remains before the Joint Parliamentary Committee and has not reached a final resolution. He also referred to Article 371A and the legislative process in discussions on Vande Mataram, and urged workers to accurately explain the State Government’s role in FNTA and ENPO-related matters.
NPF Vice President Lanukaba spoke on the party’s historical formation, referring to the Naga People’s Convention and the 16-point proposal. He also discussed the formation of the Nagaland Democratic Party under A. Kevichusa, stating that it was registered with the Election Commission of India in December 1963.
Press Secretary Atou Liezietsu said the Press Bureau serves as the official communication channel between the NPF, media and public, stressing the principle of “One Party, One Voice, One Channel.” He called for coordination between the Press Bureau, social media teams and CMO Media Cell, with verification of information before circulation.
Media Secretary to the Chief Minister Ayieno Kechü said political communication should be continuous and include public feedback. Social Media Co-Convenor Janbemo Humtsoe called for social media teams at divisional and constituency levels and verification of news.
Legal Cell Convenor Adv. Dr. Povotso Lohe outlined plans to establish legal cells in all 17 NPF divisions in the first phase and conduct legal-awareness programmes.
Other speakers included Minority Wing President Bishnu Bhattacharjee, Public Grievances Cell Convenor Z. Neikuo Lhousa, Medical Cell Convenor Dr. Kaito Jakhalu and Central Farmers’ Wing President Y. Vikheho Swu, who spoke on grassroots engagement, healthcare outreach, public grievances and agricultural development.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Central Youth Wing President N. Akok Longkumer.
