The Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) of St. Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish, Kohima Town, organised a one-day sports meet on Saturday under the theme, “Competing for God’s Glory,” inspired by 1 Corinthians 10:31.

The event featured basketball 3×3, free throw and three-point contests, along with futsal, arm wrestling, tug of war, relay race and obstacle race.

Addressing the participants, catechist of SFS Parish Petekhriezo Francis urged the youth to compete with sportsmanship and mutual respect. He said the competition should be “for God’s glory and not for fame or name.”

Referring to the ongoing FIFA World Cup, Francis noted that many Catholic footballers express their faith by making the Sign of the Cross before entering the field, after scoring goals or at the end of matches. “Let God be the first and the last. In every profession, there is a way to glorify God,” he said before hoisting the ACYA SFS flag to declare the meet open.

Rev. Fr. Peter Pehiachanglu, spiritual director of ACYA SFS, offered the invocation, while sports committee convenor Neiphivilie Amos administered the players’ oath. The opening programme was chaired by ACYA SFS president Zhavilie Raymond.

Prizes were presented to the winners by joint secretary Dziesekhoü Jacinta during the closing programme, which was led by treasurer Maria Sekhose. Kedizhanuo Caroline proposed the vote of thanks, and vice president Ruokuolazotuo Emmanuel pronounced the closing prayer.
