The Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) St Francis de Sales Parish, Kohima Town, observed its 45th Youth Day on Sunday at Savio Hall, SFS Parish, Kohima Town, during which the new executive body for the 2026 to 2027 term formally took charge.

Addressing the gathering, former ACYA president Keneilhounyü Daniel spoke on the themes announced by Pope Leo XIV for World Peace Day and World Mission Sunday in 2026. He informed that World Peace Day, observed on January 1, will carry the theme “Peace be with you all: Towards an ‘unarmed and disarming’ peace,” which calls for rejecting violence and embracing authentic peace rooted in love, justice, meekness and evangelical humility.

Daniel also highlighted that World Mission Sunday, to be observed on October 18, will mark its 100th anniversary this year under the theme “One in Christ, united in mission,” underscoring that peace is a universal calling for all people. He encouraged the newly inducted executive team to align their programmes and initiatives with the Pope’s vision, particularly in promoting peace and missionary spirit.

He further noted that ACYA SFS will celebrate its golden jubilee in 2031 and suggested drawing up a five-year roadmap in preparation, recalling the success of the silver jubilee celebrations held in 2006. Referring to the association’s theme, “For The Greater Glory of God,” Daniel sought continued support from the youth for the Angami Catholic Union, the mothers’ association and the fathers’ association of the parish.

Vizomenuo Merlyn, convenor of the nomination committee, drew attention to a growing concern among youth, stating that despite increased education and awareness, there is a tendency to drift away from respecting and listening to elders and leaders. She reminded the youth to honour all and stressed that modern education and technological advancement should not come at the cost of values. Quoting the biblical principle, “You reap what you sow,” she urged the youth to act responsibly, strengthen the association and reach out to members who have become disconnected.

Outgoing ACYA SFS office bearers formally welcomed the new executive team, with Zhavilie Raymond taking over as president. Earlier, parish priest Rev Fr Mathew Mhabemo unveiled the ACYA SFS flag and invoked God’s blessings. The programme included song presentations by youth members, while the benediction was pronounced by catechist Petekhriezo Francis.
