Additional Deputy Commissioner Kohima Rhosietho Nguori has issued an order stating that it has come to notice that certain organizations and associations within Kohima Municipal wards and villages under Kohima District have issued “shoot-at-sight” orders for stray dogs.

He informed all concerned that such actions violate the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA Act), and the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS), which prohibit the killing of animals, including stray dogs. Acts of this nature are deemed illegal under the law.

Therefore, the order strictly prohibits any individual, organization, or association from engaging in such activities.

The presence of any stray dogs should be reported to the office of the Municipal or Town Council authorities in urban areas, or to the respective village authorities or concerned Area Administrative Officers in rural areas. The concerned authorities, with the assistance of the Chief Veterinary Office, shall handle such stray dogs in accordance with the procedures laid down by the relevant laws.

It further stated that strict action would be taken against those found violating this directive under the relevant provisions of the law.
