Advisor and Chairman of DPDB Phek, Kudecho Khamo, today called on every head of department (HoD) under Phek district to personally initiate projects aimed at empowering youths and farmers, stating that such initiatives will boost empowerment, generate income, and enhance the overall economy.

Advisor Khamo urges departments to initiate projects for youth and farmer empowerment

He made these remarks while addressing the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Phek meeting held at Vamuzo Memorial Hall, Chozuba Town.

He encouraged the youth to take advantage of government schemes for entrepreneurship and skill development, while also calling upon the public to cooperate with the government to benefit from programs designed for youths, farmers, and entrepreneurs.

Khamo noted that, for the first time since the establishment of the ADC Headquarters, a DPDB meeting was being held in Chozuba Town—a historic occasion, he said.

He highlighted the prominence of Chozuba Town but expressed concern that development is still at an initial stage. He assured that the Government of Nagaland, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is actively addressing this. He expressed confidence in developing Chozuba to be on par with other regions of the state and urged departments to leave a legacy of development during their visit.

Khamo also pointed out the challenges faced by farmers due to epidemics and swine diseases, urging the Veterinary Department to take action and support affected farmers.

He emphasized the district’s potential in Fisheries, Horticulture, Industries, Commerce, Khadi, and Village Industries, noting that leveraging these sectors could significantly improve livelihoods and boost the economy, especially given Phek’s proximity to the state capital and well-connected roads.

Reiterating the responsibility of public office holders and government officials, he called for dedicated efforts to execute their duties effectively and leave a lasting legacy for posterity.

Additionally, Khamo sought cooperation from civil society and citizens to ensure the success of the ongoing cleanliness drive, announcing that rewards will be given at the end of the year.

MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu expressed delight that this was the first DPDB meeting held at Chozuba Town since the upgradation of the ADC Headquarters. He appreciated the strong presence of officers and encouraged them to carry the same spirit into their respective postings to benefit the people of the district.

Highlighting the recent political realignment under a full-fledged Naga People’s Front (NPF) government, he stressed the need to safeguard the rights, identity, culture, religion, and political ideology of the Nagas. He pledged to serve the people with honesty, transparency, and accountability.

Dr Dianna Patton, ADC Chozuba, also noted that this was the first DPDB meeting held at Chozuba Town since the upgradation of the ADC Headquarters in 2009.

During the meeting, the following recommendations were made:
·Upgradation of GHS Chetheba to GHSS Chetheba, considering the number of students from feeder schools.
·Construction of a new school building for GHSS Chozuba.
·Upgradation of JE (Power) to SDO (Power) Chozuba.
·Upgradation of Executive Engineer (R&B) to Superintending Engineer (SE) Phek.
