Advisor Khamo inaugurates GHS Rukizu
Kudecho Khamo and Vivolie Kezo at the inaugural programme of the newly upgraded Government High School Rukizu, Pfutsero, on Saturday, Feb 28.

Addressing the programme, Khamo said educational institutions should impart knowledge and enlighten minds so that students grow into leaders and professionals who contribute to society and help build a better world. He acknowledged Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister and Chairman of the State Level Education Committee, and Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, along with other officials, for upgrading the school from a government middle school to a government high school, a long-felt demand of the people.

Khamo said Pfutsero has emerged as a centre for the Chakhesang community despite the district headquarters being at Phek Town, and noted that the town has developed into an educational and commercial hub. He appreciated the community’s participation and collective efforts in realising the aspiration for the school.

He said dependence on a lone government-aided high school in Pfutsero had posed challenges for students seeking admission, causing inconvenience to parents. He added that the upgradation of Government High School Rukizu would cater not only to the Rukizu locality but also to the wider educational needs of Phek district.

Khamo placed on record his appreciation for the landowners who donated the school site, describing their contribution as visionary for the locality and future generations. Highlighting changes in Naga society and governance, he said education should be viewed beyond securing government jobs and urged students to pursue diverse professions, become employers rather than employees, and give back to society.

He said rapid changes over the past decade call for a strong work ethic across sectors, including agriculture and emerging livelihood avenues. He added that there is no place for complacency in a competitive environment and noted that banks and financial institutions are willing to support sincere entrepreneurs, while government schemes are meant for those committed to sustainable outcomes.

Encouraging the Chakhesang community and residents of Pfutsero to adapt to changing dynamics, Khamo called for preparing younger generations to meet future challenges. He lauded the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for inclusive development and urged public support for accelerating progress.

Speeches were also delivered by Razouseyi Vese, Director of School Education, and P. Lohe Chachei, Sub-Divisional Education Officer, Pfutsero. The welcome address was delivered by Velakho Sakhamo, Teacher-in-Charge of Government High School Rukizu. The programme was led by Nuvezo Kotso, Councillor of the Pfutsero Town Council. A special song was presented by the Women Department of Rukizu Baptist Church, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Vekusu Chuzho, Chairman of the School Management and Development Committee. The invocation prayer was offered by Ngotso D. Sakhamo, Pastor of Rukizu Baptist Church, and the benediction by Zacupa Chotso, Head Deacon of the church.

Earlier, Khamo inaugurated the school monolith, with the dedicatory prayer offered by Avi Zholia, Associate Pastor of Rukizu Baptist Church.
