African Swine Fever detected in Phek, restrictions imposed

The Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, has informed the public that an outbreak of African Swine Fever has been reported at Khuza village under Phek district.

According to the DC, the positive outbreak was reported by the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Phek.

In this regard, Khuza village covering a 1-km radius has been declared as the Infected Zone, while Khutsokhumo, Mutsale, Phek Town, Phugwi and Sohomi villages, falling within a 10-km radius from the infected area, have been declared as the Surveillance Zone.

The district administration has strictly enforced a ban on the slaughter, import and export of pigs and piglets, along with a ban on the transportation of pigs and pork in the notified areas with immediate effect until further orders.

The public has also been advised to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious behaviour or sudden death of pigs suspected to be caused by African Swine Fever to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Phek.
