The Centre on Friday extended the validity of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in select regions of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for another six months. The Ministry of Home Affairs said the existing classification of “disturbed areas” would remain unchanged from earlier notifications.

According to the ministry, a fresh review of the law-and-order situation in the three states was conducted before issuing separate notifications. It concluded that the areas previously marked as “disturbed” would continue under the same status from October 1, 2025, for a further period of six months.

In Manipur, AFSPA will continue to cover the entire state except the areas falling under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations across five districts. These are Imphal, Lamphel, City, Singjamei, Patsoi and Wangoi in Imphal West district; Porompat, Heingang and Irilbung in Imphal East district; Thoubal in Thoubal district; Bishnupur and Nambol in Bishnupur district; and Kakching in Kakching district.

In Nagaland, AFSPA remains in force across Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek, Peren and Meluri districts. The law also applies to Khuzama, Kohima North, Kohima South, Zubza and Kezocha police stations in Kohima district; Mangkolemba, Mokokchung-I, Longtho, Tuli, Longchem and Anaki ‘C’ in Mokokchung district; Yanglok in Longleng district; Bhandari, Champang and Ralan in Wokha district; and Ghatashi, Pughoboto, Satakha, Suruhuto, Zunheboto and Aghunato in Zunheboto district.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the Act continues to cover the districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding, along with Namsai, Mahadevpur and Chowkham police stations in Namsai district.
