The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has begun the “first phase of its democratic and peaceful agitation” across Eastern Nagaland, following the lapse of its ultimatum to the Department of School Education (DoSE). The agitation, which began on September 11, is in protest against the recent teacher rationalisation exercise that left several schools without subject teachers.

Agitation across Eastern Nagaland over teacher shortage; ENSF seals Education offices
The SDEO office at Kiphire District Headquarters sealed by the United Sangtam Students’ Conference.

As part of the agitation, all federating units under ENSF have been directed to seal the offices of the District Education Officers (DEO) and Sub-Divisional Education Officers (SDEO) within their respective jurisdictions. The Federation has also called for strict adherence to peaceful means throughout the course of the agitation.

Meanwhile, in solidarity, the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) sealed the DEO and SDEO offices at Kiphire District Headquarters and Longkhim Sub Division of Tuensang. The move follows ENSF’s claim that teachers were transferred without replacement during the rationalisation conducted on August 22, 2025.

ENSF had submitted a representation to the DoSE on August 26, demanding the retention or redeployment of subject teachers in the affected schools. However, the Federation said its request went unanswered, prompting the launch of the agitation.

Further directives are expected as the agitation continues.
