Kongan, 21 December (MTNews): Kongan Village, located in the Wakching Circle of Mon District, Nagaland, marked a historic milestone during its 75th anniversary celebration of the Kongan Baptist Church. At Zero Point, the village unveiled the foundation stone for its first road connectivity to Naginimora, the nearest town located 18 kilometers away.

G Kaito Aye, Minister of Roads and Bridges, unveiled the foundation stone on December 21, 2024 in the presence of W Chingang Konyak, Advisor, DUDA, Geology and Mining, Government of Nagaland.

The Kongan Village Council expressed gratitude for the initiative and highlighted the challenges of living in a remote location without proper connectivity. “Despite being in a jungle like this, we are glad that you all have come here. The villagers thank you. The road had state connectivity during the British era, but it was broken, leaving us without a proper road. We have worked with contractors without technical expertise, studying the terrain with our own eyes. However, this is something we cannot do alone, and we need your help,” a council representative said.

Dr W Chingwang Konyak, Advisor for DUDA and Geology and Mining, emphasized the importance of the road. “If we take this road to Mon, we save two hours. Today, whatever road we have is made by the public. There are two types of inaugurations: one for beginning and one after completion. Last year, we submitted this to Delhi and DoNER, but it wasn’t picked up. This road will remain unaffected, even if Assam enforces restrictions,” he explained. He requested Minister Aye to prioritize this road project for better services.

Minister Aye acknowledged the challenges in completing road projects on time and the delays in central funding. He appreciated the village community’s contribution and the concerned MLA representatives for volunteering to construct roads despite limited funding. Aye encouraged continued support and informed that he will also  apprised the Chief Minister to continue prioritize rural areas for good road connectivity.

Regarding the proposed Naginimora to Zero Point, Kongan Village road, Minister Aye stated that his department would reassess the road’s grading and alignment. He assured that he would prioritize this road project next year.

Minister Aye also mentioned that special packages and activities would commence in ENPO areas, appealing to the ENPOs to appreciate the anticipated positive development in the region, promoting unity and collective efforts for the progress of Naga society.

Minister of Roads and Bridges, G Kaito Aye, assured villagers of the government’s commitment to improving connectivity. “The Nagaland government is planning to ensure that every village gets a road. By March 2025, the road from Dimapur to Tizit will be fully blacktopped,” he said. Reflecting on the difficulties of commuting, he added, “To travel between Kohima and Dimapur, you must have faced many hardships. We are working to change that.”

Aye  also called upon church communities to introspect and bring reformation to society. He questioned whether the Nagas were prepared to struggle together for years or unite to change society, strengthening church communities and Naga society through fellowship and gospel.

Minister Aye appealed to church leaders to pray for Naga unity and to be disciplined and self-controlled. He quoted “Don’t fight with your shadows; fight with your enemy,” emphasizing the importance of being true spiritual warriors to experience real Christian life. He concluded by stressing the need for peace and unity in Naga society.

Rev Dr Zelho Keyho, General Secretary, NBCC, praised Minister Aye for prioritizing rural areas. Keyho appreciated Aye’s commitment and humble leadership in attending the ceremony and unveiling the stone for road construction.

“Unless he was concerned, this isn’t a place where he would have come. His heart and his concern for the rural people have brought him this morning. A minister came to the jungle to inspire us,” he said.
