Lanutoshi Aier, President of the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), has raised concerns over rising air pollution levels in Tzürangkong Range, Japukong Range, and low-lying areas like Tuli, particularly during the summer season.

Speaking at the annual review meeting for the financial year 2024–25 under the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Aier highlighted the deteriorating air quality in these regions. The meeting was organized by the Divisional Forest Office cum DMU Mokokchung.

According to Aier, activities such as coal mining — some of which are reportedly illegal — and the proliferation of brick factories in Tzürangkong have significantly contributed to the problem. He noted that residents have reported the distinct smell of burning bricks in the early morning hours, which causes irritation to the eyes.

Expressing serious concern over the presence of air pollutants in the area, Aier urged the Forest Department to mitigate in the issue if possible.
