The 70th General Conference of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) concluded on Thursday at Chungtia village with TN Mannen, Advisor and MLA, as the valedictory guest. Around 1,700 delegates attended the three-day event. The presentation of resolutions adopted earlier in the day during the business session, swearing-in of the newly nominated team of AKM office bearers for the 2026 to 2029 tenure, customary speeches, and a closing act by the Waromung Shisashir Telungjem were the chief highlights of the valedictory session. This was followed by an entertainment extravaganza hosted by the Chungtia Students’ Union.
The 71st General Conference and centenary celebration of AKM will be held at Waromung village in 2029.
Resolutions adopted at the 70th AKM General Conference
The Resolution Committee of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) General Conference at Chungtia presented a set of six resolutions during the business session on the last day of the conference, of which five were adopted and one was kept in abeyance.
The five resolutions adopted included organising a Strategic Skill and Career Conclave with a focus on entrepreneurship, career guidance, financial literacy, including job melas, and research and innovation; collaborating with the Ao Officers’ Telungjem (AOT) for the academic sustainability of Mokokchung Law College, which was established on account of the AKM Golden Jubilee; instituting a Digital Career and Entrepreneurship Repository; instituting an Act East Policy Implementation Committee; and soliciting government support for the development of transportation infrastructure in preparation for the AKM centenary to be held at Waromung village in 2029.
The proposal to limit the duration of the AKM General Conference to two days and the number of delegates to 1,000 was kept in abeyance.
