The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has submitted an urgent appeal with the Transport Commissioner of Nagaland, expressing concerns over the “regular absence” of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Mokokchung from official duty.

In a formal letter addressed to the Transport Commissioner, AKM stated, “The concerned officer from your department has been regularly absent from official duty, causing significant inconvenience to the public who rely on RTO’s presence for essential services such as license applications, vehicle registrations, and other transport-related matters.”

The AKM highlighted that “several citizens, including AKM officials, have visited the RTO office multiple times only to find the officer unavailable.” This situation, according to the student body, has led to “unnecessary delays and hardships particularly for those who travel from rural towns and villages.”

The absence of the RTO has also raised questions about accountability and efficiency within the department. “The lack of proper accountability and responsiveness is affecting the efficiency of the department and causing distress to the general public,” the letter mentioned.

AKM pointed out that the issue had previously been raised with the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung earlier this year, “considering his position as the District Head, but the concerned officer is yet to show any signs of sincerity.”

The student body has urged the Transport Commissioner to “look into this matter urgently and take the necessary measures to ensure the RTO’s regular presence at his designated posting.” Additionally, AKM appealed to the department to “implement a monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability and the smooth functioning of the office.”

Concluding their appeal, the AKM expressed hope for “a prompt and positive response” from the Transport Commissioner, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
