The Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang (AKTM) adopted a series of resolutions focused on wildlife conservation, youth skill development and cultural preservation, while a district-level piggery project for the Asetkong range was announced during the organisation’s 44th general conference held in Kubolong under Mokokchung district.
Among the key decisions, the student body resolved to strengthen the Late Dr Imtiwapang Aier “Greening Asetkong Project” by proposing a ban on the use of air guns and .22 rifles across the Asetkong range, in line with government directives and ongoing wildlife conservation efforts. The proposal will be tabled before the Asetkong Mungdang for consideration.
The conference also resolved to launch a Skill Development Project during the 2026–2029 tenure and to roll out programs to promote and preserve the Ao language, which delegates flagged as being at risk due to declining usage among younger generations.
Addressing the valedictory session virtually, TN Mannen, MLA and Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, said new development initiatives were in the pipeline for the Asetkong range, including an ambitious piggery development project under the District Plan to be implemented across villages.
Mannen said the initiatives were being shaped through consultations with village councils and elders, stressing unity as the foundation for collective socio-economic progress. He cautioned that divisions along village lines remain one of the biggest challenges to achieving holistic development in the compact Asetkong range.

Speaking to students, Mannen urged youth to prepare for rapid technological change, particularly the growing influence of artificial intelligence and communication technologies. “Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare today,” he said, calling on students to take responsibility for their choices and future.
He encouraged young people to make full use of educational opportunities, saying determination and perseverance were key to overcoming economic hardship.
The three-day event, held from January 7 to 9, brought together over 500 delegates from six units – Sungratsu, Mopungchuket, Chami, Kobulong, Longpa, and Longjang.

The newly elected AKTM office bearers for the 2026–2029 tenure are: President: Bendangkumzuk Aier (Mopungchuket); Vice President: Imzangluba Aier (Longjang); General Secretary: Katemmeren (Longpa) and Assistant General Secretary: Tekazulu Longcha (Sungratsu).
