Mokokchung, 21 April (MTNews): In a dramatic turn of events within the GPRN/NSCN (U), N Kitovi Zhimomi has been impeached from his position as the Ato Kilonser of the GPRN/NSCN (U) . The decision came during an emergency National Assembly held on April 21, 2024, at Tatar Hall, Naga Unification camp, Khehoyi.
Alezo Venuh, currently serving as the envoy to the collective leadership of GPRN/NSCN(U), has been unanimously elected as the new General Secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and Ato Kilonser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland.
The impeachment of Zhimomi was based on allegations of violating Article 18 of the National Yehzabo (Constitution) and Party Discipline Section A clause-8 and Party Discipline Section-C clause-4. Among the charges were accusations of mismanagement of finances, lack of focus on progress, and a governing style veering towards dictatorship..
According to a statement signed by Inaka Tsuqu, Speaker of GPRN/NSCN, and Kideon V Zhimomi, Chief Secretary of GPRN/NSCN, Zhimomi faced serious charges, including substantial financial mismanagement. The Assembly attributed years of financial instability within the government to Zhimomi’s alleged self-motivated financial strategy.
Furthermore, the Assembly criticized Zhimomi for displaying an “unyielding disposition and a lack of focus” on the progress of GPRN. Despite numerous advisories from respected members, Zhimomi reportedly failed to implement significant changes in governance.
The House expressed deep concern over the governing style of Zhimomi, claiming it was trending towards a “Dictatorial and Autocratic” mode, contrary to the principles of the Naga national movement.
This transition occurs amid ongoing peace talks between the NNPGs and the Indian government. Alezo Venuh, the newly elected leader, assumes the role known for his coordination efforts within the Working Committee/NNPGs.
The NNPGs, representing a coalition of Naga political groups, had previously committed to the Agreed Position in 2017 with the Government of India.
