Mokokchung, 24 July (MTNews): The All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (AAMSU) has in a clarification said that its earlier press statement ‘advising’ the Mizos living the Meitei areas of Barak Valley to vacate the area are being “misinterpreted as quit notice to Mizos from Barak Valley.”
“AAMSU only advises the Mizo Missionaries in Meitei village to take precautions for their own safety as the act of Mizoram government has caused anger upon Manipuris in Assam,” it said in the clarification.
“So far, the Mizo missionaries have been living with the Meiteis as families and we shall continue to stay in harmony forever,” it added.
In another clarification, AAMSU stated that its earlier press statement issued on Monday that ‘advised’ the Mizos living the Meitei areas of Barak Valley to vacate has been withdrawn. “AAMSU always stands for peace and harmony,” it added.
In an earlier press release, AAMSU had directed the Mizos residing in the Meitei areas of Barak Valley, to vacate the area at the earliest following the exodus of Meiteis from the state of Mizoram following a warning issued by the Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association (PAMRA), a surrendered militant group.
The AAMSU in its earlier press release mentioned, “It is very regretful to learn how the Mizoram (both government and elite groups) is involved in fuelling the violence from the beginning when MZP issued a threatening notice to the Meiteis living in Mizoram on 30th April, 2023 even before the Kuki narco terrorist declared war upon native Meiteis in Manipur on 3rd May, 2023.”
Further, stating that “most of the Meiteis living in Mizoram happens to be from Assam, the unruly behaviour of Mizoram has already escalated anger among the Meiteis of Assam,” therefore for their own safety, AAMSU had advised the Mizos living in the Meitei areas of Barak Valley to vacate the area at earliest time possible.
“At this crucial juncture of the Manipur turmoil we stand in solidarity of our Meitei kins in Manipur who are being attacked by war monger Kuki Zo tribes. The Meiteis in Assam would extend any possible and necessary support to our kins,” it had added.
