All tribal hohos, CSOs in unanimity to protect rights of Naga people: Ao Senden

Mokokchung, 12 May (MTNews): The Ao Senden on Friday said that, following the repeal of Nagaland Municipal Council Act 2001 by the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the Supreme Court has summoned the Government of Nagaland, the Municipal Councils of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung, Angami Public Organization, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation.

 

In this connection, Ao Senden said that all the tribal hohos of Nagaland and civil society organizations were united and in unanimity to protect the rights of the Naga people. Further, the apex body instructed all the members of the Ao community to cooperate with the Naga people’s decision to safeguard their customs and rights.

 

It was also mentioned that sections of the now-repealed Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 infringed on the rights of the Naga people guaranteed by Article 371A, for which the Naga people have been appealing to the government of Nagaland to amend the Act. As such, the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly repealed the Act in toto, Ao Senden said.
