Alliance Air has expanded its operations in Northeast India by introducing new flight routes connecting Imphal, Manipur’s capital, to Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur. The new services were launched on January 15, 2025, as announced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh flagged off the flights, including two new routes. Alliance Air will now operate flights from Imphal to Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur, supplementing the existing route from Imphal to Dimapur.
Naidu participated virtually, joined by senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, CEO Alliance Air, and CEO AIESL. Chief Minister N Biren Singh and State Transport Minister Khashim Vashum graced the flag-off ceremony at Imphal Airport, alongside other state government officials.
The new flights are part of a joint initiative by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Manipur Government under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme. “Pleased to announce the launch of Imphal-Guwahati-Imphal (Morning), Imphal-Kolkata-Imphal (Evening), Imphal-Dimapur-Imphal,” Singh posted on X, emphasizing the improved connectivity for the people of Manipur.
“These flights will be operated under the VGF scheme, with airfare capped at Rs 5,000,” Singh added.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation highlighted the flights’ potential to enhance travel, trade, and tourism in the region. Indigo, Air India, and Air India Express also operate flights from Imphal Airport.
