As Nagaland readies itself for the landmark Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Election, Mokokchung district, which has a reputation for turbulent elections, is gearing up for its first Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) election and three Town Council elections in Mangkolemba, Changtongya, and Tuli.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji assured the public that preparations are progressing smoothly. “All polling personnel have reached their respective stations. Till now, there have been no issues or major complaints. Security measures have been implemented, and we have adequate security on standby,” Phoji stated in an interview with MT.

Phoji emphasized the importance of public cooperation with ward authorities, noting that five companies of security personnel are deployed. “Sensitive polling stations will have one guide from the District Executive Force (DEF) and five armed police officers. Normal polling stations will have a 1+4 security configuration, but this may vary as dynamics change. We cannot be complacent. All polling personnel will have a mix of IRP and NP.”

The DC also confirmed that almost all polling stations in Mokokchung are considered sensitive.

“If the situation turns extreme, security personnel will be available to handle it. We have the security on standby, just a phone call away,” he assured, demonstrating the readiness to deal with any potential disruptions.
