Alternative ID documents notified for Koridang by-election voters

The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has issued a notification informing voters of the 28-Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency about the list of alternative photo identity documents permitted for the upcoming by-election.

The notification stated that the Election Commission of India has approved the use of alternative documents for voter identification at polling stations.

All electors who have been issued Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) must produce it for identification while casting their votes.

However, those unable to present EPIC may use any one of the alternative documents specified.

The approved documents include Aadhaar Card, MGNREGA Job Card, passbooks with photograph issued by banks or post offices, health insurance smart cards under schemes of the Ministry of Labour or Ayushman Bharat, driving licence, PAN card, smart card issued by the Registrar General of India under NPR, Indian passport, pension documents with photograph, service identity cards issued by central or state government offices, public sector undertakings or public limited companies, official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs or MLCs, and the Unique Disability ID card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

It was also informed that Voter Information Slips will be distributed to all electors to help them locate their polling stations and other details. However, the slips will only be used to facilitate voters in knowing the serial number of electoral rolls, their polling station, date of poll, time, etc. and will not be allowed as proof of identity of voters.
