Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a high-level meeting today to assess the preparedness for flood management. Shah also reviewed long-term measures aimed at formulating a comprehensive and extensive policy to mitigate the menace of floods across the country.

During the meeting, Shah directed the concerned departments to conduct a detailed study of the recent floods in Sikkim and Manipur and submit a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs. He emphasized the need to construct at least 50 large ponds in the Northeast to divert and store water from the Brahmaputra River. According to Shah, this initiative will support agriculture, irrigation, and tourism, thereby benefiting the local economy.
