The All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers Group (ANATG) 2015 Batch has “temporarily” withdrawn its sit-in protest demanding regularization of services after 13 days of agitation in the state capital. The decision was taken unanimously at a general meeting held on February 21, following assurances from the School Education Department that steps would be taken to address their concerns.
The group, representing 1,166 ad hoc teachers across the state, had launched the protest on February 4. The agitation included daily sit-ins and a three-day hunger strike to press for a time bound resolution of their long pending service issue.
A member of the core committee said that they had proposed suspending the protest on Friday but reached a final decision only at Saturday’s meeting.
According to the core committee member, the move to pause the agitation was made in response to a request from the principal director of School Education. He also said that they will submit a Charter of Demands to the government on Monday, February 23 as part of continued engagement.
The group has set June 30 as the deadline for regularization and warned that it will resume democratic protests if the commitment is not fulfilled.
