Mokokchung, October 1 (MTNews): The All Nagaland Ad Hoc Teachers Group (ANATG-2015) protest demanding regularization of their service continues to intensify as the protestors rejected the agreement between the officials of the ANATG and Department of School Education (DoSE) to constitute a High Powered Committee (HPC) within one month in order to examine the case of their demand.

The agreement to constitute a High Powered Committee was adopted following a marathon meeting between the officials of the ANATG 2015 batch and the DoSE on Friday evening. However, it was confirmed to Mokokchung Times by the former spokesperson of ANATG, Bendang Ozukum that the general members rejected the HPC and resolved to continue with the indefinite hunger strike until their demand for regularization is met.

Following this, the officials of the ANATG including the President, General Secretary and the Spokesperson resigned from leading the ANATG protestors on moral grounds and have joined the indefinite hunger strike.
Leaderless now but the protestors on hunger strike have reaffirmed their demand and have reiterated their ‘no more negotiation, only regularization’ stance.

Four hunger strike protestors hospitalized

Meanwhile, it was reported that four of the protestors have been taken to the hospital after being on hunger strike for two days. It is to be recalled that before the hunger strike was launched on Friday evening, the teachers had been in a sit-in protest for the past four days.

“They have been hospitalized. I was told one of our lady colleagues was throwing up but they are all in stable condition now,” Bendang informed. According to him, the protestors have been surviving on water and juice at the moment.

Meanwhile, with the HPC rejected and the protestors continuing on hunger strike , it remains to be seen how the department and the State Government will react to the latest developments.
