The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has submitted a formal representation to the Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, raising several pressing concerns that have been affecting the student community. With utmost respect and a sense of urgency, the Union appealed to the University to address these issues to improve the academic environment for students in the state.

One of the key concerns highlighted by the Union is the need for the University to issue Meritorious Certificates and Medals to subject toppers annually. Since 2018, the ANCSU has been facilitating the recognition of degree toppers, which has been a great source of encouragement for students. The union appealed the University to issue Meritorious Certificate and Medal to the subject toppers annually along with the issuance of mark sheet/convocation.

The ANCSU also expressed concern over the implementation of the Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. While students and teachers are excited about the holistic and flexible approach the new system offers, the Union pointed out that the University has yet to provide specific guidelines for the Fourth Year Course of FYUGP, particularly regarding the offering of UG honours degree programs. The Union called on the University to establish proper guidelines and criteria at the earliest, enabling colleges to prepare and offer the program without further delays.

Another pressing issue raised by the Union pertains to the appointment of assistant and associate professors in colleges across Nagaland. The ANCSU urged the University to ensure that all appointments strictly adhere to the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, especially in terms of qualifications. Furthermore, the Union appealed to the University to be vigilant in regard to payment of salary by institutions to the faculities as per the UGC guidelines.

The Union also acknowledged Nagaland University’s commitment to declaring degree results on time but raised concerns regarding the delays in the issuance of crucial documents such as pass certificates and migration certificates. The delay in receiving these documents has caused significant hardship for students seeking admission to institutions outside the state. The ANCSU requested that the University expedite the process and consider alternative methods, such as utilizing facilitation centers, to streamline the release of these documents.
