Kohima, October 31 (MTNews): The Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) Clean Election Movement Core Committee conducted a seminar on the topic, ‘Clean Election’ on Sunday at Jakhama Baptist Church during which Advocate Kezhokhoto Savi quoted, “The world suffers a lot not because of the violence of bad people, but because of the silence of the good people.”
According to him, this is true because many good people including “educated, officers or church leaders” remain silent during elections allowing violence especially on polling day.
“Time has come for every citizen to realize that one’s vote decides the fate of five years and beyond,” he stated, and encouraged people to vote for “a candidate who has genuine concern for public, is honest, qualified, competent, bearing strong moral responsibility, ready to sacrifice on moral ground and a candidate with integrity.”
“We need a legislator who is people friendly and ready to sacrifice for corruption-free, and this is possible only when the conduct of election is ‘clean’ and the best opportunity would be the forthcoming State General Assembly Election,” he said.
Meanwhile, Core Committee member Azonuo Ciesotsu highlighted how the ABCC Core Committee works with an objective while Kepelhoutuo Chiisi stressed on the importance of involving every qualified voter into clean election movement and eradicating illegal conduct.
Pastor Sielie Pienyii stressed on the responsibilities of church workers to stand firm and guide their church members to follow election guidelines to ensure clean elections. Esabel Solo stressed on how the youth can stand firm towards promoting clean elections in order to build a better society.
