Directs Assam Rifles to abstain from plying through the Angami inhabited areas

The Angami Students’ Union has called for an immediate shutter down and indefinite bandh in all Angami-inhabited areas, effective from August 10, 2024. This action was announced in response to a “public physical assault” on the President of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) on August 9 at around 12:30 pm, near the road passing through the Assam Rifles camp in D Block, Kohima.

According to a statement issued by the Angami Students’ Union, the assault was carried out without any provocation by personnel from the 13th Assam Rifles. The statement claims that they “not only physically assaulted the ASU President but also attempted to hit him with a rifle butt, thereby harassing him.”

The Angami Students’ Union has also directed all paramilitary forces, particularly the Assam Rifles, to refrain from traveling through Angami-inhabited areas with immediate effect. Additionally, the ASU has instructed paramilitary forces stationed within Angami jurisdiction to remain within their designated camps until further notice.

The Angami Students’ Union has appealed to the public for cooperation.
