Kohima, 25 April (MTNews): In a powerful demonstration today, members of the Angami Students’ Union gathered outside the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare in Kohima, amplifying their call for the protection of indigenous rights in Kohima district.

Addressing the media, Diezevisie Nakhro, Vice President of the Angami Students’ Union, articulated the sole focus of their agitation: securing Grade-IV reservation exclusively for indigenous inhabitants within Kohima district.

Nakhro expressed deep concern over the flouting of a 2017 office memorandum aimed at safeguarding indigenous rights, citing rampant regularization of non-indigenous individuals across various departments. According to Nakhro, the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima has seen approximately 30 such cases.

Despite engagements with the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Nakhro lamented the continued regularization of non-indigenous inhabitants, underscoring the urgent need for action. “This protest is for the indigenous inhabitants of Kohima district,” he emphasized. Reportedly, the department has assured that the issue will be resolved at the earliest.
