The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has declared a non-cooperation stance with the NSCN-K (Khango) faction in response to the death penalty issued to M/s K Rulhou over alleged non-payment of taxation.

In an emergency Presidential meeting held today, attended by all four AYO affiliates—SAYO, CAYO, WAYO, and NAYO—as well as representatives from Angami village youth presidents, several resolutions were adopted.

The AYO has called for an explanation from the NSCN-K (Khango) group regarding the rationale behind the death penalty imposed on the Angami contractor, M/s K Rulhou. The Khango group has confirmed responsibility for the penalty, prompting the AYO to seek detailed justification for this extreme measure.

The AYO had previously extended an invitation to the Khango faction for a discussion in Kohima through the Angami region of the NSCN (K) Khango Group. However, the faction did not respond by the 25th July 2024 deadline. As a result, the AYO in its Presidential Council Meeting has resolved to maintain a non-cooperation stance with the Khango group till such time the matter is resolved between the two parties.

The AYO views the death penalty as a direct challenge to the Angami community. In light of the Khango group’s failure to engage, the AYO has directed all Angamis affiliated with the Khango group to disassociate themselves until the matter is resolved. The four Angami ranges have been instructed to ensure compliance by contacting and coordinating with their members involved with the Khango group.

The AYO has reaffirmed the resolution passed by the Angami Public Organisation (APO) in 1993, which stipulates that Angamis will not entertain taxation by any Naga national groups until they merge as one.
