The Anglo-Poula Dictionary, focusing on the Chakhesang language, was officially released on October 4 at the Art and Culture Department’s Conference Hall in Kohima. Former MLA Deo Nukhu, who also serves as the Convener of the Chakhesang Poula Literature Committee, launched the dictionary during a special ceremony.

In his address, Nukhu emphasized the significance of language in preserving cultural heritage, noting that language forms the core of one’s identity. He highlighted the crucial role the Art and Culture Department plays as a guardian of Naga culture, art, and history. He expressed hope that the Anglo-Poula Dictionary would not only enrich the Chakhesang community but also contribute to the preservation of the diverse languages of the Naga people.

Dr. Imlienla Imchen, Assistant Professor at Nagaland University, provided an overview of the project, describing it as a combined effort of scholars, language experts, and the Department of Art and Culture. She expressed optimism that the dictionary would serve as a foundation for further documentation and development of the Poula language for future generations.

The program was chaired by Joint Director Meseno Peseyie, with an invocation prayer by Rev. Vekuo Rhi, Associate Pastor of the Chakhesang Baptist Church in Kohima. The event also featured a folk tune performance by the Zhavame Women Society of Kohima. Joint Secretary Imtitemsu delivered the welcome address, and a vote of thanks was given by Adele Moa, Director of Art and Culture.
