The All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA) has convened an emergency Teachers’ General Meeting on September 18 to discuss concerns surrounding the recent developments relating to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirement for in-service teachers, particularly those appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
The meeting will be held at 11 a.m. at the CANSSEA Conference Hall, Kohima, with all teachers appointed prior to August 2010 requested to attend.
According to ANSTA, the meeting will provide an opportunity for affected teachers to place their concerns, views and grievances before the association and collectively deliberate on the lawful and appropriate course of action available to the teaching community.
The association said the concerns of teachers who had rendered years of service prior to the implementation of the RTE Act were serious and needed due consideration.
In view of the sensitivity of the issue, ANSTA has also issued a 10-point code of conduct for participants, calling for discipline, dignity and mutual respect during the meeting.
Participants have been asked to refrain from abusive or offensive language, personal attacks, defamatory or unverified allegations, intimidation and any form of unlawful conduct. The association also stated that any proposal for agitation, demonstration, representation or other collective action would be considered only through appropriate organisational and legal procedures.
ANSTA further clarified that no individual may claim to speak or act on behalf of the association without authorisation from its competent body, while officially adopted courses of action would be undertaken through the association’s organisational process.
The association appealed to the affected teachers to attend the meeting in a spirit of unity, restraint and constructive dialogue so that their concerns could be placed before the appropriate authorities in a responsible and lawful manner.
