Several Ao civil society and youth organisations on Friday endorsed the resolution adopted by Ao Senden on the retraction of statements made by VS Atem and RH Raising, while calling for an early settlement of the Naga political issue.
The decision was taken at a solidarity meeting with veteran Naga leader Dr SC Jamir at his farmhouse in Chumoukedima. The meeting was organised by the Ao Youth Organization, Chumoukedima, and attended by representatives of Ao organisations from Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Medziphema, Diphupar, Foothill and Aoyim areas.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the participants supported Ao Senden’s call for Naga leaders and the public to exercise discipline, humility and wisdom and work towards unity and mutual respect.
The gathering also said it would remain vigilant and reserved the right to take further action if necessary.
The meeting also endorsed an initiative of the Naga Youth Movement for an early and honourable solution to the Naga political issue.
On the formation of the Western Ao Youth Front, the organisations decided that its proposed launch would include Ao youth from Dimapur, Chumoukedima and Niuland districts.
The gathering also appealed to the Government of India and other stakeholders in the Naga peace process to work towards a permanent and inclusive political settlement.
The resolution was endorsed by Ao Senso Telongjem, Chumoukedima; Ao Senso Telongjem, Dimapur; Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation; Ao Youth Organization, Chumoukedima; Aoyim Youth Organisation; Diphupar Ao Youth Organisation; and Foothill Ao Youth Organisation. The Medziphema Ao Youth Organisation was also mentioned in the statement.
The statement was issued by the Media Cell of the solidarity meeting on October 9.
