The Ao Naga community in Bengaluru celebrated the Tsüngremmung festival on August 2nd 2025, at United Theological College, Bengaluru, which was a vibrant display of cultural identity and unity. Co-hosted by Ao Senso Telongjem Bangalore (ASTB) and Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Bangalore (AKTB) under the theme “Sobaliba Rajem — A Comprehensive Understanding of the Ao Naga Culture and Tradition,” the event brought together students, professionals, elders and well-wishers.
The program commenced with a warm welcome by the hosts and an invocation by Dr. Kaholi Zhimomi. This was followed by opening remarks from Sunep Longkumer, President of ASTB who gave an introductory speech highlighting the festival’s purpose and significance. The key moment of the evening was delivered by speaker Lanusenla Longchar, who offered a powerful and timely reminder for today’s generation to remain rooted in cultural values while navigating the complexities of modern life. She called for mindfulness in our words and actions, the importance of making wise choices, and honoring the legacy of wisdom handed down through generations.
The celebration gathered momentum with vibrant performances of traditional folk dances and songs by Ao students from Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru. This was followed by captivating indigenous folksong presentations by the Bengaluru Watsü Telok. As the evening progressed, an engaging interactive segment titled “Tsüngremmung Shijep — The Festival Distribution of Pork” was conducted, led by Akangnungsang Jamir, President of AKTB who also delivered a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to all participants, supporters, and well-wishers. The event concluded on a spiritual note with a benediction by Imti Walling, Pastor In charge, Bengaluru Ao Baptist Fellowship, bringing the celebration to a meaningful close.
The event ended with cheerful audience participation and a flavourful feast of traditional Ao dishes, bringing everyone together in a joyful spirit of gratitude and shared taste. (Published as received, with minor edits for clarity)
