Mokokchung, 23 December (MTNews): Four prominent Ao Naga youth organizations have issued strong condemnations against the alleged extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh made by the NSCN (Khango) group against Aolemba Longkumer, a noted entrepreneur and award-winning innovator. The incident, which occurred on December 16, 2024, has sparked widespread outrage among the organizations, including the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO), Foothill Ao Youth Organisation (FAYO), Ao Lanur Telongjem Medziphema (ALTM), and Ao Youth Forum Diphupar (AYFD).

All four organizations emphasized the importance of supporting individuals like Aolemba Longkumer, a President’s and Governor’s award recipient whose contributions have been pivotal in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Nagaland. They warned that such harassment could discourage future innovators and entrepreneurs, undermining the state’s progress.

DAYO

The DAYO (Dimapur Ao Youth Organization) said it strongly denounces and condemns the recent incident of extortion demand of Rs 50 lakh and harassment towards Aolemba Longkumer, who is a bonafide member of DAYO, by cadres of NSCN (Kango) group.

It said Aolemba is not only an active member of DAYO but also a role model for many upcoming Naga youths whose contribution towards social building and life skills development needs no introduction. “We are shocked and overwhelmed that he has been served extortion notice by people who claim to be the defender of Naga identity and our rights which is totally unacceptable,” DAYO stated.

DAYO reiterated that it condemns all acts of extortion as reprehensible and illegal and will continue to do the same “till this menace is neutralized by competent authorities.”

DAYO said it stands united in denouncing such criminal practices that undermines economic stability and public safety. “The rise of extortion cases in Nagaland has made the citizens very insecure and agitated and if not addressed at the earliest, explosion of law and order situation may become unavoidable,” it cautioned. “Extortion and intimidation of honest and hard working citizens are a direct challenge and violation to the values of integrity and justice in a civilized society,” DAYO maintained.

As such, DAYO said it will not tolerate any form of extortion towards their community members and urged upon the concerned authorities to ensure that the “perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice and put behind bars at the earliest.”

DAYO further said that the security and well being of the citizens are the prerogative of the Government of the day, and urged the State Government to deal with such prevailing acts of “gondaism and the mafia system with an iron hand.”

FAYO

The Foothill Ao Youth Organisation (FAYO) condemned the “forceful demand” as a violation of personal liberty and an unacceptable act in today’s society.

“When young people come together and try to contribute to our State economy such unlawful practices are unacceptable in this generation,” FAYO stated. It further called upon all right-thinking citizens to speak out against such “evil acts and encroachment on one’s personal liberty to life.” The organization called upon the law enforcing agency to “book the transgressors at the earliest and penalize them according to the law of the land.”

ALTM

The Ao Lanur Telongjem Medziphema (ALTM) expressed its strong disapproval of the harassment and extortion demand. ALTM called on law enforcement agencies to act decisively against those who engage in such anti-social practices and added that stringent penalties must be ensured to deter future offenders.

AYFD

The Ao Youth Forum Diphupar (AYFD) described the extortion demand as outrageous, unjust, and intolerable, asserting that such acts threaten the rights and freedoms of individuals and communities.

“We as a youth organization will not stand idly while NSCN-K [Khango] group attempts to use coercion and intimidation to achieve their goals,” AYFD said. It also expressed solidarity with the Chümoukedima Ao Lanur Telongjem (CALT), which had already filed an FIR, and demanded swift action from authorities to arrest the culprits and ensure the safety of citizens.

“We denounce this demand and firmly stand with the CALT in our opposition to this unconscionable extortion demand,” it said.

“We demand that NSCN- K [Khango] group immediately retract this odious demand and cease their campaign of harassment and intimidation. We also call on the concerned authorities to precipitate the arrest of those involved ensuring safety of the members,” AYFD asserted.
