The Yatinü of Moatsü festival in Mokokchung was a celebration of culture, tradition, unity and fraternity that portent glad tidings for Naga people. The celebration, organized by the Ao Senden with assistance from the Government of Nagaland, drew participation from all Naga tribes in Nagaland which was a significant feat that underlined the role that Ao Senden can play in building unity and leadership in Nagaland.
The Ao Senden is the Ao community’s apex tribal body and it has been pivotal in preserving and promoting the Ao culture and traditions while representing the voice of the Aos. Because of Ao Senden’s efforts, the Moatsü Festival turned out to be the rendezvous of Nagas from all tribes today. The festival also had the Chief Minister of Nagaland as the chief guest who was accompanied by a host of ministers and other dignitaries, demonstrating the Ao Senden’s leadership and influence.
The participation of different tribes in the Moatsü Festival is a heartening development. It shows that when efforts are made to foster unity and inclusiveness, Nagas are always willing to unite as one. It is essential to note that the festival not only brought together diverse tribes but also built a sense of community among them. This is a huge step forward in fostering a sense of ‘Nagaism’ among Nagas.
The Ao Senden’s leadership and influence do not have to be limited to the Ao tribe alone. The other tribal organizations do not have to be limited to their tribe alone. They can all be a beacon of hope and unity for the entire state of Nagaland. It is critical to recognize and encourage them to continue their work in creating unity and leadership in the state, as we saw today.
The predominantly Ao people of Mokokchung should take the lead in advocating unity and Nagaism. The Ao community should recognize the importance of cultural diversity and work towards fostering a sense of unity and inclusiveness with different tribes and make everyone feel as ‘one’.
The Aos were called ‘pioneers’ for a reason and if the ‘pioneers’ lead the Nagas towards peace, harmony and love, why will the rest of the Nagas not follow?
Similarly, the Nagas should recognize the role of their respective tribal bodies in promoting unity, brotherhood, sisterhood, kinship and leadership. The state’s different tribes should come together not only to celebrate their shared heritage but also to fight against injustice, against corruption and put up a united front in the demand for social justice, economic justice and overall development. It is only through oneness and inclusiveness that Nagaland can progress and achieve its full potential, including the political aspiration.
In conclusion, Ao Senden’s efforts in promoting unity and leadership in Nagaland are exemplary. The Moatsü Festival this year is a significant achievement that should be celebrated and emulated. The Ao Senden should be encouraged to continue their efforts in promoting unity and providing leadership for the betterment of the state and its people.
