Ao Senden has reiterated its previous directive prohibiting the granting of Ao names and Ao citizenship to non-local adopted children and children born to Ao women married to non-local men.

In a statement issued on 22 August 2024, and written in the Ao language, the apex Ao Senden further stated that issuing important documents validating Ao citizenship, such as Birth Certificates, Scheduled Tribe Certificates, Indigenous Certificates, and School Cumulative Records, to non-locals is prohibited.

It also cautioned that those who grant Ao names and Ao clan titles to non-locals will be subject to penalties according to Ao customary law.
