The Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have given the School Education Department until the end of the 2026 academic year to take concrete action on the shortage and unequal distribution of teachers in Mokokchung district.
In a response to the department’s communication on the joint ultimatum for immediate rationalisation and recruitment of teachers, including subject teachers, the three organisations acknowledged the department’s assurance that necessary steps are under process.
However, they said the shortage and unequal distribution of teachers, particularly subject teachers, continue to adversely affect students across the district.
“Considering the urgency of the matter and the larger academic interests of the students,” the organisations said they would wait until the end of the academic year for the department to address the issues.
They urged the government and the School Education Department to use the period to implement necessary measures to ensure equitable distribution and adequate recruitment of teachers, including subject teachers.
The organisations warned that if concrete and effective action is not taken by the end of the academic year 2026, they would be “compelled to take their own course of democratic action” in the larger interest of students and the education system in Mokokchung district.
The response was signed by Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong, AKM president Lanulemba Longchar and Watsü Mungdang president Tianaro Jamir.
