Kohima, October 9 (MTNews): Aphuyemi FC Zunheboto, who won all five matches in the tournament remained unbeatable as they defeated Proper V FC Mon 10-6 in the final match of the tournament to lift the 2nd Nagaland State Futsal championship trophy here at Reiphinyü Badze Vürie, Kohima on Sunday evening.
Toka Achumi scored five goals for Aphuyemi FC Zunheboto in the first half, while Mon only managed one, putting the Mon club under a lot of strain. Zunheboto’s goal scoring streak continued, as their goalie Homuka Yeputho steals the show as the hero, preventing the Mon squad in scoring more goals.
Mon improved their goal scoring line in the second half, but Aphuyemi FC controlled the game and finished the match with a huge goal margin.
It was a joyous occasion for the visiting Zunheboto fans, who gathered in large numbers to support the side. Aphuyemi FC demonstrated their supremacy and winning mindset as they returned home with the trophy. Aphuyemi FC were unstoppable in the competition, winning all five games to cement their title as champions.
Earlier, Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) secretary general Abu Metha stated in his address that Nagas must develop and refine their own style of games in order to compete with players from other areas of the world.
He emphasised football’s versatility, saying that the game could be adapted to meet the physical and mental capacities of players all over the world based on their distinct traits.
Metha said that Nagas may develop comparable techniques to Tiki-taka or Tiqui-taca (ˈtikiˈtaka), a style of play in Spanish football typified by quick passing and movement, pushing the ball through multiple channels, and preserving possession.
In this regard, he asked football specialists in the state to work together to develop a realistic style fit for Naga players.
He assured full support from the government and also the Nagaland Olympic Association in developing football in the state with the assistance and support of concerned organisations such as the Nagaland Football Association.
Aphuyemi FC received Rs 1,00,000 along with citations and runner’s up Proper V FC received Rs 50,000. The losing semi finalists were Vanguard FC Tseminyu and Nimok Power FC Phek.
The champions Aphuyemi FC will now represent Nagaland in the upcoming national Futsal championship which will be held in the month of November.
