The Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), Mokokchung on Monday dispatched 1.5 tonnes of tomatoes from Longkhum village to Dimapur under its Direct Farmer-to-Market initiative, marking the beginning of efforts to strengthen market linkages for local farmers.

According to the APMC, the shipment was undertaken as part of its ongoing revamp action programme aimed at improving agricultural marketing and ensuring sustainable economic benefits for farmers in Mokokchung district.
The committee stated that it has established the necessary correspondences to facilitate the export of more tomatoes to other districts during the peak harvesting season. The initiative seeks to provide farmers with better market access by connecting them directly with buyers outside the district.
APMC Chairman I Panger Longkumer, Vice Chairman L Yanger Lemtur, and other committee members were present before the consignment was dispatched from Longkhum village to Dimapur on June 29.
The committee expressed hope that the initiative would help create a more sustainable marketing system for tomato growers and contribute to improving farmers’ incomes during the peak production season.
