Apokla Pongen, a 20-year-old student at Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung and the reigning Miss Ao Nagaland 2021-2022, launched her “Beauty with a Purpose” campaign on Sunday, May 15, by visiting the Souls Care Home in Chami Village, Mokokchung District.
In an exclusive conversation with Mokokchung Times, the beauty queen stated that visiting Souls Care Home orphanage in Chami Village was just the tip of the iceberg in her mission to provide Sanitary Pads to young ladies in need and other essential commodities to orphans in Mokokchung.
Pongen, who is from Longsa Village, stated that her major goal for the campaign was to raise awareness about menstruation hygiene among teenage girls and to encourage the use of high-quality sanitary napkins in various government schools and orphanages around Mokokchung.
She also emphasized the significance of adequate menstrual hygiene care and education on the relevance of menstrual hygiene for teenage females. She also asked for the government to offer proper healthcare in all government schools, orphanages, and rural regions by establishing various menstrual hygiene awareness initiatives, among other things.
“All of the children were so different from one another, like different kinds of flowers, and together they form our planet a lovely garden full of happiness, love, peace, togetherness, and pure hearts.” “I wish them all a good life in the future, may God bless these lovely youngsters,” she stated while conversing with this newspaper about her meeting the 18 children currently staying at the Souls Care Home, Chami Village.
Pongen during her campaign plans to visit Care and Support Society, Chungtia, Longsa Government High School, Artang Primary School and NI Jamir Government Higher Secondary School among others.
