The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed deep anguish and strong condemnation over the “appalling and inhuman act” committed by Wapang L Imsong, currently serving as an LDA cum Computer Operator under the 10 IR Battalion, Zadima, attached to the Police Engineering Project (PEP), PHQ.
Imsong stands accused of physically abusing a 9-year-old minor male child belonging to the Konyak community. The AKM described the act as “a gross violation of child rights and human dignity,” citing the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and underscoring that it “infringes upon the fundamental Right to Life as enshrined in Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.”
The students’ body insisted that “perpetrators of such heinous crimes must be prosecuted without delay under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).”
Reacting to the incident, the AKM said it is “horrified by the sheer brutality inflicted upon a child, who, at his tender age, deserves care, compassion, and a nurturing environment for holistic growth and safety.” The group expressed alarm that “a government personnel—entrusted with discipline and duty—would stoop to such a barbaric level.”
The AKM firmly stated that “such behaviour has no place in a civilized society and must be dealt with by the law of the land without bias or leniency.” It urged “the concerned authorities to initiate strict and immediate legal action against Mr Wapang L Imsong to ensure that justice is served transparently.”
In a show of solidarity, the AKM said it “stands with the Konyak community and the victim’s family,” calling upon “all conscientious citizens and civil society organizations to raise their voice against such crimes and work together to create a safer, just, and humane society for all children.”
