Mokokchung, June 26 (MTNews): Days after the Tuli Police raided an illicit liquor production unit at a piggery farm under Wameken village jurisdiction of Tuli ADC HQ in Mokokchung district, Wameken Village Council (Mejensanger Putu Menden) on Saturday set fire to the facility for engaging in the illegal activity within its territory.

Illicit liquor production unit burnt down

The Wameken village elders said that such illegal activities “defile the land” and were against societal norms and conventions and tarnished the reputation of the village. Thus they decided to burn down the building, where about 200 volunteers from Wameken village, Wameken Senso Mungdang, and Wameken Lanur were involved. The property was reportedly leased out exclusively for a piggery stockyard in accordance with certain NOC (No Objection Certificate) terms and conditions.

A person named Imtichuba (35) from Unger village, a resident of Windy Ward of Changtongya town, was apprehended at the piggery stockyard located at Longnakba Lenten, which is only 30 metres from the train station and a case has been registered against him at the Tuli Police Station. While the police have ruled out the involvement of the landowner, sources informed Mokokchung Times that some non-locals are suspected to be involved who are yet to be identified or detained.

It may be mentioned that the Wameken Village Council has given the ADC Tuli a 15-day deadline commencing from June 25 to apprehend the “culprits that planned, installed and executed the illegal venture.”

While acknowledging the efforts made by the police personnel leading to busting the illicit business, the Council stated that it would adopt its own course of action and would not be held liable if any unpleasant circumstances occurred if the authority failed to apprehend the offenders.
