The NDPP-BJP alliance, part of the oppositionless PDA Government, has reaffirmed that the alliance between the two parties is “as strong as ever” and that the PDA Government is functioning smoothly. This was asserted in a joint statement issued today, stating, the statement aims to give accurate information on the alliance and the unity of the PDA.

Addressing concerns over recent media coverage, the coalition clarified that during the ULB elections, both parties had agreed to contest in their respective constituencies, with “friendly contests” in certain areas.

”In these areas, it was the desire of the party workers to contest the elections considering the fact that these are grassroots level elections and therefore it was agreed to have friendly contests in only three councils,” the statement noted.

According to the Joint Statement, appended by KG Kenye and Temjen Imna Along, the contests were friendly in nature and have not impacted the joint teamwork of the PDA coalition in any manner. “The State Government continues to function with cohesion and understanding under a spirit of collective teamwork and responsibility,” it added.

The statement added that the “positive spirit of the alliance will continue to be upheld even in the formation of the ULBs across the state with an inclusive approach wherein both the parties will work collectively with team spirit and unity”.

The NPDD further explained that the alliance contested the Lok Sabha elections with a joint PDA candidate but unfortunately the alliance lost the elections. This was immediately followed by the elections to the ULBs across all urban towns except in the eastern region.

The PDA coalition through the joint statement also extended its appreciation to the electorates of the areas where elections to the ULBs were held.

“The overwhelming mandate is an indication of the positive mandate bestowed upon the PDA Government under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio,” it said.
