Guwahati, 10 March: Assam is set to launch its first satellite, ‘ASSAMSAT,’ marking a significant leap in leveraging space technology for governance and development. The announcement was made by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog during the 2025-26 state budget presentation in the Assembly on Monday.

The state government aims to harness satellite technology to ensure a steady and reliable flow of critical information, enhancing the management of key socio-economic initiatives. ASSAMSAT is expected to play a crucial role in various sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border security, and law enforcement.

The project is being developed in collaboration with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) under the Union Ministry of Space. This initiative highlights Assam’s commitment to integrating advanced space technology into public service delivery.

Additionally, the Assam government plans to involve college and university students in experimental satellite development, fostering innovation and inspiring young talent in partnership with IN-SPACe and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
