Mokokchung, 21 August (MTNews): In an effort to create awareness on importance of biofertilizers and its benefits, the Agricultural Technology Management Agency(ATMA) Kobulong Block in convergence with FOCUS DMU Mokokchung conducted a demonstration on the topic “Application of Bio fertilizers to improve crop quality and yield” in Longjang village on 21 August.
The resource person, Abenla B Jamir, Assistant Technology Manager, ATMA Chuchuyimlang Block mentioned that biofertilizers are substance that contains microbes, which help in promoting the growth of plants and trees by increasing the supply of essential nutrients to the plants; they also increases the fertility of soil by fixing atmospheric Nitrogen.
She stressed on four types of biofertilizers, namely Azobacter, Azospirillium, Rhizobium and Phosphoitika. Practical applications of biofertilizers, including seedling root dip, seed treatment, and soil treatment, were explained in detail. Further, the resource person highlighted the advantages of biofertilizers compared to chemical fertilizers, followed by a live demonstration of the application process.
After the program, packets of Azobacter, Azospirillium, Rhizobuim and Phosphotika biofertilizer provided by FOCUS DMU Mokokchung were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 14 farmers attended the program.
In another initiative, ATMA Kobulong Block, Mokokchung, conducted a demonstration on “Effective Potato Cultivation Practices” in Longjang village on 21 August. The primary aim was to foster proper cultivation techniques and management strategies to augment potato production.
Serving as the resource person, C. Amongla Jamir, BTM, ATMA, comprehensively covered the various aspects of the complete package of potato cultivation practices. The program included hands-on demonstrations covering land preparation, optimal sowing methods, and dehaulming. The resource person also addressed topics such as suitable sowing times, irrigation practices, intercultural operations, disease management, and post-harvest protocols.
The demonstration was attended by a total of 14 farmers.
