Mopungchuket, 6 June (MTNews): The Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kobulong Block conducted a demonstration program on the cultivation practices of soybean at Mopungchuket village in Mokokchung district on 5 June. The objective was to educate farmers about scientific and improved methods of soybean cultivation for achieving quality and high yield production.
C Amongla Jamir, the Block Technology Manager (BTM) from ATMA, acted as the resource person for the program. Amongla Jamir highlighted the benefits of soybean cultivation, stating that it is a legume crop that enhances soil fertility by fixing atmospheric nitrogen. She further emphasized that soybean is a rich, affordable, and abundant source of high-quality proteins and fats. Additionally, she explained that soybean can be cultivated in a wide range of climates and soils.
The farmers were encouraged to increase soybean production by adopting improved technologies such as line sowing and maintaining optimum spacing. Intercropping was also emphasized as a beneficial practice. The resource person demonstrated the proper technique of line sowing for soybean and provided insights on appropriate harvesting methods.
At the conclusion of the program, soybean seeds and gardening gloves were distributed to the participating farmers. In total, 10 farmers attended the demonstration program
