Khensa/Mekuli, 6 June (MTNews): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Ongpangkong South Block, Mokokchung conducted demonstration programs at Khensa and Mekuli villages on 6 June.

 

 

At Khensa village, a demonstration on the cultivation of Soya Bean and Pole beans was carried out by Rongsenrenla Longkumer, Assistant Technology Manager, Ongpangkong South Block. The resource person informed the farmers about the potential of growing soybeans as an oilseed crop and as a nitrogen-fixing crop. She introduced the farmers to the soybean variety JS-95-60, which is known for its high yield, early maturity, and resistance to pests. Rongsenrenla emphasized the importance of intercropping by suggesting a pattern of 2 rows of soybeans and 1 row of maize to enhance the yield.

 

At Mekuli village, a demonstration program on the topic “Preparation of IMO” (Indigenous Microorganisms) was conducted. Bendangkumzuk, the Block Technology Manager (BTM), enlightened the farmers about indigenous microorganisms, their application methods, and the preparation process.

 

The resource person explained how the use of microorganisms as top dressing improves soil fertility and enhances the production of plant growth hormones. The farmers had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on demonstration, where Bendangkumzuk guided them through each step of incorporating the materials or inputs to achieve the final product.

 

Additionally, seeds (soybean, pole beans, bush beans, long yard beans, tomato) and neem oil were distributed to the participating farmers.

 

In total, 10 farmers attended the demonstration program, along with the staff from ATMA.
