Anaki/Aopenzu, 7 June (MTNews): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Tuli Block, Mokokchung, organized a training and demonstration program on June 6, 2023, at Anaki Old and Aopenzu villages. The event focused on the cultivation practices of millets and featured a demonstration on the production technology of soybeans and groundnuts. The resource persons for the program were Imlisunep Ajem, BTM, and Imlipokim Pongener, ATM, of ATMA Tuli Block.
During the training, Imlipokim Pongener provided valuable insights on cultivation practices, emphasizing the importance of intercultural operations, pest and insect management, and precautionary measures for cultivators to follow. He demonstrated the step-by-step cultivation procedures to the participating farmers, enabling them to acquire practical knowledge.
Subsequently, Imlisunep Ajem, BTM, shed light on the different types of millets and highlighted the significance of adopting millet cultivation. He explained that millets are easy to grow, climate resilient, and drought-resistant, making them suitable for cultivation in the region. Ajem emphasized various aspects such as the optimal time and method of sowing, seed rate, weed management, soil nutrient management, insect pests, growth and flowering stages, maturity, and harvesting. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of a nutritious daily diet and its impact on health. Ajem also highlighted the potential for higher income generation through millet cultivation, encouraging farmers to explore this avenue.
