Mokokchung, 8 September (MTNews): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Tuli Block, Mokokchung conducted capacity building and Kisan Gosthi on 6 September 2023 at Tzudikong. The topics included capacity building on winter vegetables and Farmer Scientist Interaction with Dr Imchalemla SDHO, Tuli, and ATMA staff as the resource persons.

Capacity building was conducted with an aim to involve more farmers in winter vegetable cultivation as a provision for kitchen needs and a source of income generation for the family. Resource person Dr Imchalemla highlighted the potential of vegetable production and income generation in the State. She emphasized the importance of nursery as it plays a vital role in the development of a crop. As per the locality requirement, she explained to go for a raised bed nursery and further briefed on nursery management in various stages till transplanting in the field. She also further deliberated on proper spacing, organic ways of cultivation, plant protection measures, and marketing.

 

During the interaction session, farmers shared field problems such as aphid infestation, FAW in maize, and unavailability of good quality seeds. To counter such problems, she suggested the use of yellow sticky traps, neem oil, biopesticides, and follow crop rotation and intercropping. She also shared local indigenous methods for control of pests and diseases and advised them to constant pest monitoring in the field.

 

Seeds such as cabbage, carrot, radish, Knol Khol, broccoli, coriander, beans and biofertilizer were distributed to the participants. A total of 23 farmers attended the program along with ATMA staff.
