In a landmark initiative, Atsikeh Trust has launched Saukhyam pads, made from banana fiber, marking the first such venture in Northeast India and Nagaland.

The launch, held at Atsikeh Trust office, was officiated by Mercy Epao, Central Prabhari Officer, ADP/ABP Kiphire, and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India.
Saukhyam sanitary pads originated as a research project at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and were officially launched in 2017 by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math (Amma’s organization) to provide eco-friendly, affordable menstrual solutions for rural women.
Mercy Epao commended Atsikeh Trust for promoting sustainable and natural products, emphasizing the need to address menstrual hygiene issues in rural areas. The launch was initiated in the presence of Temsuwati Longkumer, Deputy Commisioner Kiphire.
The Saukhayam pads, showcased in a documentary film, are eco-friendly, budget-friendly, and reusable, offering a sustainable solution for women’s health and empowerment.
A Thonger, Founder of Atsikeh Trust, highlighted the trust’s commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable healthcare.
The Saukhyam pads project, under Atsikeh was initiated in 2024, aims to provide hygienic and affordable menstrual products to rural women and girls, while promoting eco-friendly practices.
Key features of Saukhyam pads include natural materials, sustainability, comfort, and economic empowerment.
The pads are reusable for 4-5 years, reducing waste and promoting zero-waste goals.
Atsikeh Trust, has been working towards providing accessible healthcare to underserved communities in Kiphire.
The trust’s initiatives, including free health check-ups and community outreach programs, have laid the foundation for sustainable healthcare services in the district.
The launch of Saukhyam pads marks a significant step towards women’s empowerment and sustainable development in Kiphire, setting an example for other regions to follow.
